Hilda T Woy

Hilda Tippens Woy died peacefully in Bayfront Hospital on April 13, 2024 in Saint Petersburg, Florida at the age of 85 surrounded by her family.

Hilda is survived by her daughters, Jodye (Steven) Waggott and Aashaa Love; and grandchildren Britney (Nathan) Healy, Amber Waggott, and Shaun Waggott. She is preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Edith Tippens, and her sister, Debra Nicely.

Hilda was born on December 31, 1938 in Rossville, Georgia. She graduated from Central High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1957 and continued on to attend Middle Tennessee State College. 

Her family remembers her as a thoughtful, loving mother and grandmother who taught them to become strong, selfless individuals such as herself and to pursue their dreams and passions. 

Hilda would do anything to fully connect and experience joy with her granddaughters— especially by indulging in many beach trips, playing video games together and watching their favourite shows and movies; all while sipping on an ice cold Cherry Coke. These treasures were significant to Hilda’s life with her family which they cherish fondly.

She was devoted to her friends and family, and always enjoyed making others feel special. She spent much of her life working with and caring for children: as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts and a leader for Girls Club in her youth, and as a friendly face of Toys “R” Us in her retirement where she made meaningful and lasting connections in the Saint Petersburg community. 

Hilda’s visitation is scheduled for April 23, 2024 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m at Sorensen Funeral Home, 3180 30th Avenue North, Saint Petersburg, Florida 33713. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Hilda’s life. The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Menorah Life and Bayfront Hospital’s Suncoast Hospice for their care of their beloved mother and grandmother.
